Artist's Inspiration

An expression of admiration for the ancient Minoan civilization, their artwork, and mythology.

A prominently placed amphora is illuminated by beams of sunlight allowing the viewer to enjoy its intricate details. Elements of Minoan architecture and symbolism are used to set the mysterious scene. The columns reference the palace of Knossos found in Crete. The snake represents their Snake Goddess which has been interpreted by many as the protector of the house. The purpose was to paint the feeling of mystery and wonder of this great bronze age civilization and its colorful artwork.
