Artist's Inspiration

A tranquil scene of an olive tree beside a historic chapel, bathed in warm sunlight, capturing a timeless Greek essence.

A walk through the courtyard of this bright cathedral with red domes is common when running errands in downtown Aegina. There is the aroma of honey with many flowers blooming and dappled light flickering through the leaves of the trees.

Painting there was a lot of fun. I loved it when some kids stopped to check what I was painting and then said “very nice picture”. It was rewarding and nice to see kids interested in painting.

The cathedral was built in 1806 and is dedicated to three holy figures: The central nave to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the right to Saint Dionysos who is the patron of Aegina, and the left to Saint John the Theologian. The church was once used for the inaugural ceremony of the first government in Greece.
