Artist's Inspiration
This painting is inspired by the Greek island called Symi.
A vibrant coastal village Gialos comes alive under a moonlit sky, reflecting vivid colors on tranquil waters.
Arriving in the vibrant port of Gialos, you see so many traditional houses, colorfully painted. Bright ochres, indigos, and terracotta, with red-tiled roofs and little balconies. It’s truly a fairytale island.
Throughout the canvas, we have the energy of the nightlife. People are out dining walking here and there, having conversations under a full moon. There are so many bright reflections on the calm sea. Warm tones of yellow, pink, orange and gold. A sharp contrast with the cool dark backdrop of the slopes of Gialos. Almost every color of the spectrum has been used. I incorporated loose brushstrokes and countless layers of thick paint. This allows light to enter the paint film and illuminate the image.
